The Republic of Yemen is one of the largest countries in the world rich in heritage, antiquities and manuscripts, as Yemen is considered a country of civilizations and knowledge, as parents and grandparents vowed their lives to seek knowledge and construction. They reached an awesome level of greatness of their time.
Sanid Organization for Relief and Development currently contributes to the protection of cultural heritage in its various forms, as the organization considers the protection of heritage a protection of the Yemeni national identity and the preservation of the ancient history of Yemen.
Among the organization’s contributions is the preservation of historical cities and the endeavor to restore and maintain damaged buildings, monuments and archaeological and historical sites that are considered the historical and cultural Yemeni façade.
Sanid Organization for Relief and Development considers heritage an essential pillar of cultural identity and it is the sample of its pride.
The organization seeks to protect heritage and interferes to develop the civilization of the Yemeni society. The organization tries to shed light on the extinct heritage, which suffers from the lack of support.
The organization has presented a set of studies and projects that protect and promote cultural heritage, and through this the organization tries to achieve the effective presence of the Yemeni cultural identity and heritage.
The organization showed a set of important points among its plans to protect heritage, buildings, historical cities and manuscripts. In addition to holding, qualifying, and training courses in the field of heritage protection in all its forms, and holding awareness-raising seminars and events in the same field, and among its active activities is the establishment of a special magazine for the organization concerned with heritage and its protection.
Sanid Organization for Relief and Development will open broad and global horizons for the protection of Yemeni cultural heritage, and will work to introduce the world to Yemeni creativity, and that Yemen is the source of heritage through the time.

Mission

Sanid Organization for Relief and Development, represented by the Cultural Heritage Protection Unit, strives to achieve its goals in the fields of protecting Yemeni cultural heritage and raising awareness of the importance of this heritage, and seeking to show the cultural and historical aspect of Yemen, in partnership with the Ministry of Culture and Yemeni community organizations.

Cultural heritage: including both tangible and intangible :

A) The tangible cultural heritage: the heritage that was transmitted through previous generations and its successors and ancient human civilizations and it includes:
The archaeological heritage: such as archaeological sites, buildings, installations, ancient palaces, museums, mosques, castles, forts, fences, city remains, military buildings, and others.
Documentary heritage: such as manuscripts, parchments, and documents.
The transferred heritage: artifacts, handicrafts, handicrafts, stone engravings, decorations, ancient coins, etc.
Urban heritage: cities, museums, monuments, and architectural evidence of historical, aesthetic, scientific or artistic value.

B) Intangible cultural heritage: traditions, forms of oral expressions, customs, songs, dances, ceremonies, knowledge, practices and skills that pass on from generation to another and it is  popular heritage.
C) Underwater cultural heritage: remains and shipwrecks.
D) Natural Heritage: wild and marine protected places and sites, nature reserves, botanical and zoological gardens, and geological sites.

The Goals and Objectives:

The establishment of the Cultural Heritage Protection Unit aims to implement the goals of the organization in the field of protecting cultural heritage in its tangible and intangible aspects, natural heritage and its urgent and supportive interventions during armed conflicts and natural disasters that threaten the archaeological, urban, movable and natural heritage from extinction, destruction and fading.
In order to achieve these goals, the Cultural Heritage Protection Unit shall have the following tasks and powers:

  1. Contributing to the protection of archeology and archaeological sites and the preservation of cities, regions and historical monuments through supportive intervention programs during armed conflicts and natural disasters.
  2. Providing the appropriate items in support of the efforts of official institutions and bodies concerned with the process of preserving the fixed and transferred archaeological and architectural heritage from deterioration, looting and theft.
  3. Encouraging  the behavior of society that emphasizes respecting the tangible and intangible cultural heritage by spreading  awareness of the importance of preserving cultural and natural heritage.
  4. Working to take the necessary measures to face the potential impacts of unauthorized activities and their impacts on natural heritage
  5. Contributing  to financing projects for the preservation, restoration, rehabilitation, and protection of movable and  architectural heritage by inviting the international community local and international organizations to obtain an urgent priority to provide financial, technical  assistance in securing financing projects in order to ensure the success.
  6. Contributing to the protection of the natural heritage, the protected areas threatened with destruction by human and natural activities, and to preserve and protect them.
  • 7- Paying attention to handicrafts and traditional industries, revitalizing and developing them in cooperation with official bodies and local and international organizations.
  • 8-  Paying attention to the needs of the sites and places of cultural and natural heritage and developing the standards that lead to their complete preservation.
  • 9- Encouraging the exchange of information and research in the field of tangible and intangible cultural heritage between the organization and the relevant international and local organizations.
  • 10- Contributing  to the process of rehabilitation and advancement of cultural heritage by organizing and preparing workshops to teach heritage and preserve it from extinction, destruction and fading.
  • 11- Preparing and laying down urgent and urgent policies, plans, and programs for the maintenance, restoration, rehabilitation, and protection of antiquities, archaeological sites, cities, regions, and historical monuments.
  • 12- Preparing programs aimed at preserving  manuscripts projects and providing laboratories and materials for maintenance, restoration and preservation in coordination with the relevant authorities.

  1. Proposing programs to protect museums, preserving and restoring monuments, cities and regions, historical monuments and interventions during armed conflicts and natural disasters in coordination with the competent bodies.
  2. Establishing  awareness development programs for the participation of local communities and individuals in preserving archaeological sites and historical cities and implementing them in coordination with the concerned authorities.
  3. Preparing database and information on archaeological sites, cities, regions and historical monuments threatened and affected by war, armed conflict and natural disasters.
  4. Preparing maintenance and restoration programs for movable antiquities, manuscripts, and parchments.
  5. Supervising the work of field and administrative work teams.
  6. Preparing reports on the level of implementation of activities and programs.

1) Proposing  programs aimed at counting, collecting, classifying and documenting data and information on handicrafts and traditional industries and their areas of spread and presence in coordination with the relevant authorities.
2) Establishing community awareness programs on the importance of introducing literal heritage.
3) Preparing sustainable development programs in support of the activities of handicraft centers and traditional industries.
4) Preparing and implementing programs aimed at collecting, documenting and classifying folklore and highlighting their  characteristics ( proverbs, tales, legends and rituals).
5) Reviving, preserving and maintaining popular traditions and customs.
6) Supervising the work of field and administrative work teams.
7) Preparing  reports on the level of implementation of activities and programs.
